Inle Lake

After recovering from our trek we spend three days exploring Inle Lake by foot, bike and of course boat.

Inle Boat Men

The people of Inle Lake have a completley unique way of paddling, found no where else in the world. Standing on the back of the boat, they wrap their leg around the oar and move it in a snake like motion, propelling the boat forward.

This man was waiting for us as we exited the canal leading from the main town Nuangshwe. When he saw us he jumped up, gave a very good demonstration/performance, showed us a fish as if to prove he was a genuine fisherman, then collected his tip.

Red Mountain Vine Yard

$2 for a five wine taster menu and an amazing view over the lake

Cheroot rolling

The women here roll over four hundred cigars a day each. A tobacco mixture is rolled in a tobacco leaf and sealed with rice glue. A box of twenty costs only $4 - and that's the tourist price.

Floating gardens

The floating gardens are actully built up mud banks, water in between each row, for growing tomatoes and cucumbers. Each garden has a gate suspended in the water and the gardeners go amongst the plants in little canoes.

A 'fishing technique' on the lake - I'm not quite sure how it works.
